  ASEAN-COCI Operations

There are two Sub-Commitees under ASEAN-COCI (merged from the four Working Groups since COCI restructuring at the 34th Meeting in May 99):

  • Sub-Commmitee on Information
  • Sub-Commmitee on Culture

The Sub-Committees initiate new project ideas, and submit project proposals to the respective National ASEAN-COCI Secretariats for approval. After evaluation, these proposals are submitted to the ASEAN-COCI for approval.

The Sub-Committees organise and co-ordinate approved projects under their respective portfolios. The WG co-ordinating will be responsible for co-ordinating disbursement of funds, implementation of projects, and organising and managing meetings.

Funding for COCI projects come primarily from the ASEAN Cultural Fund, which was initiated by Japan's contribution of $5 billion yen in 1978. Some of the projects are funded by ASEAN Dialogue Partners.

Chairmanship of ASEAN-COCI is rotated among the ASEAN countries.
