  Muhammad Ariff Ahmad
Muhammad Ariff Ahmad was the first recipient of the Tun Seri Lanang Award for his contributions to the Malay literary scene. The award was one of three new literary awards introduced by the Malay Language Council of Singapore in 1993. Muhammad Ariff also won the South East Asia Write Award for Singapore in the same year.

Mr Muhammad Ariff is a leading figure in Malay literary circles in Singapore. He was a founder member of Angkatan Sasterawan ’50 (Writers Movement ’50), a group that played a leading role in promoting Malay language and literature in the 1950s. A retired teacher and lecturer, Muhammad Ariff is now a freelance writer. One of his books, Jangan Tak Ada, a collection of poems, won the National Book Development Council of Singapore Book Award in 1990.
